Will You Go Out Without Knowing?

A devotion taken from an edited version (James Reimann) of My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers:

“He went out, not knowing where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8)

Have you ever “gone out” in this way?  If so, there is no logical answer possible when anyone asks you what you are doing.  One of the most difficult questions to answer in Christian works is, “What do you expect to do?” You don’t know what you are going to do.  The only thing you know is that God knows what He is doing. Continually examine your attitude toward God to see if you are willing to “go out” in every area of your life, trusting in God entirely.  It is this attitude that keeps you in constant wonder, because you don’t know what God is going to do next.  Each morning as you wake, there is a new opportunity to “go out,” building your confidence in God…”do not worry about your life…nor about the body…(Luke 12:22).  In other words, don’t worry about the things that concerned you before you did “go out.”

Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you.  God does not tell you what He is going to do–He reveals you you who He is.  Do you believe in a miracle-working God, and will you “go out” in complete surrender to Him until you are not surprised one iota by anything He does?

Believe God is always the God you know Him to be when you are nearest to Him.  Then think how unnecessary and disrespectful worry is! Let the attitude of your life be a continual willingness to “go out” in dependance upon God, and your life will have a sacred and inexpressable charm about it that is very satisfying to Jesus.  You must learn to “go out” through your convictions, creeds, or experiences until you come to the point in your faith where there is nothing between yourself and God.”

This devotion really helped me pinpoint where my anxiety has been coming lately…not knowing where He has us going…I cannot stand it!  I feel powerfully moved by Him in certain ways…dreams layed upon my heart that I don’t see coming true anytime soon…..and wondering what steps He might have us take…”what decisions need to be made?” I keep asking.  “What do we prepare for?”  This devotion helped me know to just REST in Him…He will make the move and we will KNOW what decision to make when the time to decide comes upon us.  I don’t need to feel anxious…that a decision will come upon us and we will miss it…or that we won’t know what to choose…or we won’t be prepared for it…  I am so thankful!  I am glad to once again re-focus my energy towards serving my sweet husband and kids and to STOP daydreaming and worrying…and just REST and TRUST that the Lord will prepare us for any decisions that need to be made.  He is so gentle and full of peace…and He will bring any decisions in perfect timing and our hearts will be prepared and ready.  I am so excited to put everything to REST.  This is what I am hearing from the Lord.  Everytime I think about the plans He might have for us…I get anxious.  Everytime I think and pray about being a better wife and mommy, much joy and fulfillment comes.  All the rest is in His hands.  My prayer is that I will be able to put it all to rest and give my family my individed attention.  Not knowing is scary.  But, it forces us to really trust God with every moment…and to stop guessing at what He is about to do…and focus on getting to know Him more.  This is a prayer He will answer.  He won’t tell us what He is going to do…but will reveal more of HIM to us.  I love that.  I want to know more of Him.  This is true intimacy that will help me pour out more of myself to others.
